Resolutions

By Mike Jastrzebski

It’s that time of the year and I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about the New Year. Since my blog day fell on the 31st I thought I’d offer up my writing and boating resolutions.

1) I will write a new Wes Darling Mystery (#3) and will finish an outline for the fourth book in the series.

2) I will write the best book I can, which means I will do at least two rewrites before making the book available to the public.

3) I will research the book completely. True, this means I will have to spend several months in the Bahamas writing every morning before I go snorkling or exploring the islands, but no one said life would be easy.

Which brings me to my boating resolutions.

4) I will get the hell away from the dock.

5) I will not get angry or swear (much) when things go wrong on the boat, because things always go wrong when you’re living on a boat.

6) And finally, I will do my best to enjoy every sunrise and every sunset because at 63 I realize that I’ve missed more sunrises and sunsets than I have left in my lifetime.

About Mike Jastrzebski

In September of 2003 my wife, Mary, and I moved aboard our 36-foot Sailboat, Roughdraft. It was our intention to take the boat south from Minnesota to warmer climates where I would write a novel. Six years later I have completed 3 mystery novels. I have published the first two books, The Storm Killer and Key Lime Blues as e-books and trade paperbacks. The third book, Dog River Blues will be released in early 2011. It is my intention to use this blog to share what I’ve learned while trying to get published. I will also blog about the trials and tribulations of living on a sailboat. We sailed the boat from Minnesota to Mobile, Alabama where we lived for two years. We also spent three months living in Key West. Currently, the boat is docked in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. In 2011 we plan to take the boat to the Caribbean where we plan to drift until it is no longer fun.

One Response to Resolutions

Hey Mike, who was it that said when faced with someone else’s thoughts about the boats condition? “If something is going to go wrong its going to happen out there, not tied to the dock?” Be careful out there, and watch those Spanish lobsters.
